That being said, I saw The Martian recently in a HUGE cinema that was packed out. My schedule is fairly flexible, so weekday afternoon sessions and late night sessions are great with often so few people there it feels like the show is just for me! Unfortunately the popcorn at the last session of the night often leaves a LOT to be desired. I seriously love my friends but we don't see eye-to-eye here.Īs a 40-something single guy (no doubt someone will point out that the username checks out) alone is pretty much how I see movies. Yeah I saw it, and you could've come too but your flaky ass was too busy sitting on the couch drinking wine and watching crappy reality television last Friday. Now when a cool trailer comes on and everyone starts talking about it, I'll say, 'Yeah, it was really good.' And they always go, 'Oh, you actually saw it?' with a slight twinge of disappointment. It would actually make me get internally mad at them, which wasn't really fair either. We'll all be sitting around watching football and a good trailer comes on and everyone is all, 'We have to go see that!' and I'll say, 'Cool, how about next friday?' And then there's a lot of feet shuffling and, 'ohh well, I might be busy.' Bitch, you're not busy, you just don't want to commit to anything. My friends are just super non-committal and don't seem to really care about films as much as I do. A lot of those I go to alone because I'm in it for the experience of trying to see the movie in a new light and not so much worried about being social about it. I live near an Alamo Drafthouse so I go to a lot of retro or special showings too. The Martian was the last big one we all went to.

Plus they are usually big movies, events. It's cool to talk to them after and see how they were immediately affected by a movie none of us have seen before. If I had to choose a preference I'd say I like to go to new movies with people.
I can just let the movie surround my mind. But I am more into movies than her or most people I know so I still end up going alone pretty often and it's a nice break from having to be social. But now that I'm in a better place socially, when I consider going to see a movie I always ask my friends, and obviously my girlfriend who I live with always gets an automatic invite. I got pretty accustomed to it when I was in a new city and knew no one my age after college. But their romance and their musical aspirations are threatened by trying to stay true to their musical visions, changing musical tastes, and by Stacee himself.I think both going alone and with people has its value. As Drew and Sherrie's romance blossoms, other romances around them blossom as well. But Patricia is hiding a secret from her past as to the reason for her extreme fervor in getting rid of the Bourbon. His Christian fundamentalist wife Patricia Whitmore is leading the on the ground campaign in this area, she who is determined to shut down the Bourbon. Another problem for the Bourbon is that Mayor Mike Whitmore is taking a tough stance on what he sees as bad societal influences like rock music. Dennis and Lonny, who are having financial difficulties, are able to convince rock star Stacee Jaxx, the perpetually stoned front man for the band Arsenal who got his first break performing at the Bourbon, to perform for free at a benefit concert at the club. Despite Dennis Dupree, the Bourbon's owner/manager, not liking to hire people like Drew or Sherrie - someone who has musical aspirations - as service staff, Drew is able to convince Dennis and his assistant Lonny to hire Sherrie as a server, Drew and Sherrie who have a blossoming mutual attraction.
The two meet as Drew helps Sherrie with a situation when she first arrives in town. She is just like Drew Boley was when he first arrived in Hollywood, he, now the Hollywood veteran, who works as a bar back at the Bourbon Club, known as the center of the rock scene in town and the place where many of the biggest acts in rock got their big break. Naive Sherrie Christian has just arrived in Hollywood from Tulsa looking to become a rock star.
